8th Annual 'Communities Achieving Excellence and Accountability' Conference at SVSU

January 27, 2017

Speakers included Robert Fortini, PNP, and Ray King, MD. Fortini is the Chief Clinical Officer for Bon Secours Medical Group and King is Senior Vice President, Medical Affairs & Chief Medical Officer, of Allegiance Health. Population Health Management is a pressing topic within the healthcare arena.

The 2017 conference shared how this is achieved through innovative and transformative actions, providing vision to enhance system performance, improve care coordination, and reduce costs. This can all be accomplished by building on the collective impact model, catalyzed by national and regional thought leaders. Speakers provided conceptual frameworks and case examples related to their experiences in accountable systems of care and patient/person-centered medical homes, enabling participants to continue examining and enhancing their efforts toward improving quality and patient care experiences in the region.

The event was cosponsored by Saginaw Valley State University, Hospital Council of East Central Michigan, Mid-Central Area Health Education Center and Michigan Health Improvement Alliance.

Greg Paris, MHA, received his undergraduate degree in marketing and accounting from Iowa State University and his master's in Healthcare Administration from Des Moines University. He was named the Iowa Hospital Association Executive of the Year in 2007 and is a member of Studer Group's Hall of Fame. Over the past seven years,  he has worked with Studer Group as a coach, Rural Account Leader and national speaker.

Diane Stollenwerk, MPP

Diane Stollenwerk is an appointed member of the Maryland Health Care Commission and president of a small consulting firm that provides strategic insight, practical guidance and hands on implementation to improve health and health care. Her expertise is in consumer engagement, performance measurement, accountability, public reporting, effective communication and technology. She has worked on health policy issues for nearly 25 years at the local, state and national levels, including serving as a Vice President at the National Quality Forum.

William F. Jessee, MD, FACMPE
Meeting the Future of Healthcare: The Critical Need for Leadership

William F. Jessee, MD, FACMPE is one of the nation's leading experts on physician services management and hospital-physician integration. In particular, he is skilled in the development and implementation of strategies for creating aligned economic interests among physicians, hospitals and payers. He is also widely recognized as an expert on health policy issues, and the role of governance in quality improvement and patient safety. Jessee joined Integrated Healthcare Strategies (IHStrategies) in October 2011 after serving for more than 12 years as president and chief executive officer of the Medical Group Management Association. He also holds an academic appointment as Clinical Professor of Health Systems, Policy and Management at the University of Colorado School of Public Health.

6th Annual 'Communities Achieving Excellence and Accountability' Conference at SVSU

Bloom, MD (right), and David Grayson Marrero, Ph.D (left) were the guest speakers at the Sixth Annual "Communities Achieving Excellence and Accountability" conference held at Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU) on  January 23, 2015. Bloom is the chief of Geisinger Health System Care Continuum and medical director of Quality and Performance at Geisinger Health Plan. Marrero is the J. O. Ritchey Endowed Professor of Medicine and director of the Diabetes Translational Research Center at the Indiana University School of Medicine.

Todd Sagin, MD, JD
Hospital-Physician Relationships: A Changing Dynamic in the Era of Accountable Care
May 6, 2014

In addition to being board certified in family medicine and geriatrics, Dr. Sagin holds a degree in law, has training as a mediator and arbitrator to address healthcare conflicts and is a regular faculty member for organizations from The Governance Institute to the American College of Healthcare Executives. Dr. Sagin is a physician executive recognized across the nation for his work with hospital boards, medical staffs and physician organizations. He is the national medical director of Sagin Healthcare Consulting, LLC and HG Healthcare Consultants, LLC, which provide guidance on a wide range of healthcare issues. He is also the author of Creating the Hospital Group Practice: The Advantages of Employing or Affiliating with Physicians, published in 2009. Dr. Sagin also serves on the national board of Volunteers of Medicine, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping individuals and communities develop free healthcare clinics for the uninsured.
