McKenzie Health System and Marlette Hospital Encourage Good Health, Regular Screenings during Prostate Health Month

As the seasons change, so can our health. September is recognized as both Prostate Health Month and Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, providing a reminder of the importance of good health practices and regular screenings. McKenzie Health System and Marlette Regional Hospital, affiliates of United Healthcare Partners, encourage all men to schedule an annual checkup if they have not done so already.

Other than skin cancer, prostate cancer is the most common cancer in American men. The American Cancer Society estimates there will be about 161,360 new cases of prostate cancer diagnosed this year and approximately 26,730 deaths will be attributed to the disease.

The Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) test checks for elevated levels of the antigen and should be performed annually beginning at age 50, unless there are risk factors involved. Early detection is the key to successful treatment.

McKenzie Health System and Marlette Regional Hospital are dedicated to promoting awareness and wellness in our community. Maintaining a healthy weight through a diet that is high in fiber and regular exercise can help to reduce the risk factors for some prostate issues. Regular screening is also important for every man, just one of the reasons we encourage you to visit your doctor each year.
