McKenzie Lunch and Learn

McKenzie Health System is pleased to welcome Brandy Trepkowski, MSN, FNP-BC, Family Nurse Practitioner at McKenzie Rural Health Clinic, to present “What Everyone Needs to Know about Breast Cancer and Skin Cancer” at the October Lunch and Learn workshop, scheduled for Wednesday, October 18, 2017, from Noon to 1 p.m., in the McKenzie Health System Dining Room. Lunch and Learn is a community education series held every third Wednesday of the month. The cost for the workshop is $5, and lunch is included in the price. Pre-registration is required by calling Nina Barnett, McKenzie Health System, at 810-648-6127.

“The actress Julia Louis Dreyfus was accurate recently when she stated that 1 in 8 women are diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, and the American Cancer Society reports that breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in women,” explains Louise Blasius, LMSW, LPC, Director of Human Services at McKenzie Health System.

“October is best known as breast cancer awareness month, but we don’t want to ignore skin cancer,” adds Blasius. “The American Cancer Society describes skin cancer as the most common cancer of all and, even though melanoma accounts for only 1% of skin cancer, it causes a large majority of skin cancer deaths. At this month’s Lunch and Learn workshop Nurse Practitioner Trepkowski will be educating the audience about breast cancer and skin cancer, and highlighting ways to help prevent them and recognize them. She will provide valuable, useful information on how we can live in a way that will help to prevent cancer and maintain health, resulting in a more enjoyable and fulfilling life!”

The workshop will be presented in a relaxed, personal atmosphere, and questions will be welcomed. “In addition,” Blasius reports, “attendees will have a delicious and healthy meal. We hope you can join us!"
